Eight people, including several children, were seriously injured this morning (08), after the collision of a bus with a daycare center on the outskirts of the Canadian city of Montreal, spokespersons for the services told AFP. Quebec emergency.
“There are eight seriously injured so far,” spokeswoman Marianne Lessard said of the accident in the city of Laval. “Sixteen vehicles, including nine ambulances, are on the scene,” added Lessard.
The Laval police, on the other hand, told AFP that they had surrounded “a wide perimeter” to restrict traffic around the partially destroyed establishment.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. local time (1:30 p.m. GMT). Several children were trapped under the vehicle and were rescued by rescuers.
Sainte-Justine hospital, which received the victims, confirmed that several children were in serious condition. Quebec Public Security Minister Francois Bonnardel said the bus driver had been arrested.
Television footage showed the bus inside the facility and part of the roof above the vehicle.
“I helped pull the driver, who got off the bus,” a relative told Radio Canada before bursting into tears. According to his wife, the man was “half naked” and witnesses saw him “deliberately throwing himself on the crib”.
Now police are investigating whether the act was intentional.
