Cadillac Celestiq with Ultra Cruise will run 95% of scenarios

The Cadillac Celestiq is the most sophisticated car produced by GM and it will soon have technology that will allow it to run 95% of the scenarios existing in North America, in the more precise case, the United States and Canada.

Called Ultra Cruise, the technology will consist of an array of sensors and cameras that will enable hands-free driving on nearly all US and Canadian roads.

The array will include more than 20 sensors, seven of which will be eight-megapixel cameras scattered around the exterior of Cadillac’s electric crossover body.

They will ensure that Celestiq recognizes road signs, traffic lights, vehicles, pedestrians, animals, among others, allowing safe automatic navigation.

Within a range of 90 meters, four short-range radar sensors will allow you to safely identify pedestrians and vehicles, while four long-range 4D radars will look further afield.

Its function is adaptive cruise control, lane change maneuver and advanced automatic parking, but the star of the Ultra Cruise is the essential LiDAR laser radar (less for Tesla).

The scanner performs a three-dimensional scan of the road ahead, which will give the Cadillac Celestiq a map to visualize what is actually on the road.

However, Ultra Cruise will not only look outside, but also inside, where an infrared camera will monitor the driver during journeys, detecting signs of drowsiness, inattention or even if the driver is in difficulty.

To make it all work, the Ultra Cruise will feature high-capacity data fusion chips from Qualcomm Technologies.

With Ultra Cruise, the Cadillac Celestiq will be able to cruise highways, country roads, suburbs and city streets across the United States and Canada without having to put their hands behind the wheel.

However, as we have already seen, this is a limited system for the North American “universe”, which does not even work in China.
