‘Unidentified object’ flying over Canada shot down

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday (11) that an American fighter shot down an ‘unidentified object’ in the northwest of the country, a day after Washington shot down another craft over Alaska .

“Canadian and US air forces acted in concert and a US F-22 fired at the object,” Trudeau tweeted.

The event comes a week after the United States shot down an alleged Chinese spy balloon on February 28, triggering a new diplomatic incident between Washington and Beijing.

Trudeau said Canadian forces deployed in the Yukon “will recover and analyze the remains of the object” and said he spoke with President Joe Biden about what happened.

The craft was shot down on Saturday over the Yukon region, on the border with Alaska, where American fighter jets shot down another object on Friday, on the north coast of the state.

Search and recovery operations continued on Saturday but were hampered by “cold wind, snow and little sunshine,” US Northern Command said in a statement.

“Recovery activities are being conducted on the ice floe,” the text said, adding that the Pentagon “did not provide further details (…) on the object, including its capabilities, destination, or origin.” .
