Brazil wins two medals at artistic gymnastics DTB Pokal

The DFB Pokal Artistic Gymnastics was held this weekend in Stuttgart, Germany, an event that brought together gymnasts from all over the world. Brazil took a team of young gymnasts and came away with two medals on two apparatus. Julia Soares won gold on floor and Yuri Guimarães silver on vault.

Julia competed in the solo final on Sunday 19 and, performing her series to the soundtrack of the film Alladin, won a score of 13,300. Jocelyn Robertson from the United States also scored the same, but Julia won the title to have a higher score (8,000 vs. 7,700). Canadian Aurellie Tran completes the podium with 12,833. Julia also competed in the balance beam final, placing fourth with a score of 12,633, 0.100 off the podium.

Yuri Guimarães competed in the jump final on Saturday (18) and with two good jumps he averaged 14,416, just behind Harry Hapworth of Great Britain, who had an average of 14,866. Yuri also competed in the final on floor, placing sixth with 13,066. Another Brazilian in the final was Gabriel Barbosa on pommel horse. He unfortunately suffered a crash and ended up in sixth and last place.

Brazil also participated in the team competition. On the women’s side, the team of Julia Soares, Beatriz Lima, Carolyne Pedro, Luisa Maia, Josiany Calixto and Gabriela Rodrigues finished in ninth place with 149,800 points. In the men’s category, Brazil was also in ninth place with 239,600 points. The team consisted of Yuri Guimarães, Gabriel Barbosa, Josué Heliodoro, Murilo Miguel, Patrick Sampaio and Tomas Rodrigues.
