Switzerland continues to dominate women’s curling after winning its fourth world championship on Sunday (26), in Sandviken (SWE).
13 teams took part in the competition and faced each other in the preliminary round. The top two qualified directly for the semi-finals, while those ranked between 3rd and 6th would play the quarter-final playoffs.
In the preliminary round, Switzerland were unbeatable, winning all 12 games played and advancing to the semi-finals. Norway surprised and advanced with the second best campaign (8 wins and 4 losses).
The competition for places in the quarter-finals was tight. Four teams tied 7-5: Canada, Italy, Sweden and Japan, with the Canadians finishing third in the tiebreaker.
In the quarterfinals, Canada beat Japan 6-4 and Sweden 4-3 in Italy. In the semi-finals, Switzerland won 8-4 against Sweden, while Norway beat Canada 8-5.
In the decision, until the 8th end, the match was tied 3-3 between the Swiss and the Norwegians, but in the last two ends the team led by Silvana Tirinzoni stood out and with three points closed the match at 6-3, winning the title.
It was Switzerland’s 10th title and fourth in a row. Switzerland have not lost in 36 games, the last defeat dating back to May 4, 2021 against Sweden by 8-3.
The bronze went to Canada, who beat Sweden 8-5.
