Sports journalist Roberto Carmona died this Sunday morning (4), in São Paulo, at the age of 86. Born in Presidente Bernardes, in the interior of São Paulo, the journalist is survived by four children and eight grandchildren.
The wake will take place from 8 a.m. this Monday (5) at the Cemitério do Araçá, in the Sumaré district, in the capital of São Paulo. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. He had recently undergone spinal surgery.
For almost six decades, Carmona has covered the football matches played by the main teams in São Paulo from the touchline. The journalist was part of the Rádio Transamérica team.
On its Twitter, the radio lamented the death. “Sad news. The outstanding voice of Transamerica, Roberto Carmona, a legend in sports journalism and radio history, has passed away. His legacy will never be forgotten,” he said.
In 2013, Carmona was honored by the São Paulo State Sportswriters Association for 50 years of work in sports journalism. Three years later, he published his biography, entitled “O Senhor do Rádio”.
