President of the Brazilian Automobile Confederation (CBA), Giovanni Guerra, has invited former Brazilian driver Roberto Pupo Moreno to be curator of the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The event is scheduled for November 13 at the circuit of Interlagos. .
Moreno took the job in 2021 and his return is associated with a good job done. Generally, each stage of the Formula 1 World Championship has five marshals, three of whom are recommended by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), one represents the drivers’ association and the other is appointed by the ASN (National Sporting Authority), this vacant position, from the ABC.
“My first time as a steward last year felt like I was racing the Indianapolis 500 for the first time, which means a lot of situations to adapt to in a short time, but my 42 of international motorsport experience and the help of the more experienced flight attendants helped me speed up ‘this cockroach’ quickly,” said Moreno.
As a driver, Roberto used to question the attitude of many stewards, especially in Formula 1. use the pilots’ experience in sporting decisions and I am grateful to them. to be able to contribute a little bit to this wonderful sport, which I have been honored to be a part of for so long,” he explained.
The ABC relied on two factors to count on Roberto Pupo Moreno. For Giovanni Guerra, the former driver is synonymous with talent and experience in motorsport.
Moreno and the “electric chairs”
Friend of Nelson Piquet, Roberto Pupo Moreno began his career alongside the three-time Formula 1 champion. Both started out in Brazilian karting and migrated to Europe. With little capital, the “bass” won the Formula 3000 title in heroic fashion, with a borrowed car and engine.
In Formula 1 he was able to race with the worst cars on the grid: Coloni, Eurobrun, Andrea Moda and Forti Corse, but his great triumph was with Benetton, when Moreno won the last Brazilian double, with Nelson Piquet, at the 1990 Japanese GP.
He joined Formula Indy in the mid-1990s, where he recorded wins and podiums. Known as the “supersub”, or super substitute, the Brazilian was cited as a replacement for Canadian Greg Moore, who was injured at the Fontana Grand Prix in 1999. At the time, the young driver opted to race and ended up die in a serious accident.
Roberto Pupo Moreno still has activities related to motorsport. The “bass” coaches teams and drivers, and has a strong presence in Formula Regional Americas (F-3 USA) and Copa Shell HB20 Brasil.
