Ahead of the World Cup, the Brazil women’s national team will have tough friendlies against Canada

In preparation for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the Brazilian national team will face 7th-placed Canada twice on the last FIFA Date of the year, November 7-15. The match will take place in two of the biggest stadiums for the Brazilian public, Vila Belmiro, in Santos (SP), on the 11th, at 3.15 p.m., and the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo (SP), on the 15th, at 3.15 p.m.

With ten consecutive victories, 33 goals scored and only one conceded, the team led by Pia Sundhage will have another big test in view of the World Cup, whose opponents were known on October 22. In the first phase, Brazil is in group F and will face the team qualified in the play-offs (China Taipei, Panama, Paraguay or Papua New Guinea), France and Jamaica. The coach will announce the athletes called for the two meetings next Tuesday (1st), at 11:00 a.m., at the headquarters of the CBF, in Rio de Janeiro.

History between Brazil and Canada

Since Pia took charge of the women’s national team, this will be the sixth match between Brazil and Canada. On each occasion, the duels were marked by great games. At the China Tournament, in November 2019, Brazil won 4-0. Shortly after, in March 2020, at the France Tournament, they drew 2-2. At the She Believes Cup, in February 2021, another meeting and Canarinho triumphs by 2 to 0.

In the home stretch of preparation for the Olympics, in April 2021, a 0-0 draw. Finally, in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the team led by coach Beverly Priestman eliminated the Selection on penalties, winning by 4 to 3. In Japan, the Canadian team won the gold medal. The overall story reinforces the balance between the two teams. Since the first meeting in 1996, there have been nine Brazilian wins, nine draws and eight defeats.
