Air Canada reduces checked baggage allowance on flights to Brazil

Without notice, Air Canada has reduced the checked baggage allowance on flights to or from Brazil. The previous generous allowance was for two bags weighing up to 32 kg in economy class. From now on, it will be only one at the lowest prices, with the same weight limit.

Passengers who wish to carry a second bag will have to pay 100 USD (approximately R$506) and 225 USD (approximately R$1,139) for the third. The new rule applies to air tickets issued since 08/23/2022.

Air Canada Checked Baggage

The change impacts Economy Class Standard and Flex fares. The most expensive Latitude fare continues with the two-volume free franchise. Nothing changes for passengers traveling in the company’s premium economy or business class, who continue with the allowance of two bags weighing up to 32 kg each free of charge.

Star Alliance Gold status passengers can still check one additional piece of baggage in addition to the allowance offered by the fare. Elite travelers of Aeropan (Air Canada’s frequent flyer program) can take up to three bags for free, but these are not cumulative with the fare allowance, whichever is greater, as follows:

  • Aeropan 25K customers: two bags weighing up to 32 kg;
  • Aeropan 35K, 50K, 75K and Super Elite customers: three bags weighing up to 32 kg.

It should be remembered that all passengers can carry one piece of hand luggage up to 10 kg, regardless of class of service or fare purchased.
