Madeira is not expected to take measures similar to those taken by Canada, where the sale of houses was banned this year to non-resident foreigners. Miguel Albuquerque, president of the regional government, affirms that this measure is not, for the moment, envisaged. A ban on the sale of homes to non-residents is also being considered by the Balearic Islands.
