Bia and Azarenka take on southpaws Fernandez and Townsend in the doubles semifinals

Madrid, Spain) – Friday’s round in Madrid will see the semi-finals of men’s singles and women’s doubles, with Brazilian participation Beatriz Haddad Maia. All matches were scheduled at the Manolo Santana pitch, the main stadium of the Caixa Mágica complex in the Spanish capital.
Bia and former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will face two lefties, Canadian Leylah Fernandez and North American Taylor Townsend, starting at 4 p.m. (Brasilia time). The 26-year-old from São Paulo is looking for her second WTA 1000 doubles final this season, as she decided Indian Wells alongside Germany’s Laura Siegemund in March.
The other semi-final will be at 8 a.m. with North Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula as main seeds against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk and Romania’s Elena Ruse.
The first men’s semi-final takes place at 11 a.m. (Brasília time), with world number 2 and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on the court. The Spaniard faces the Croatian Borna Coric, 20th in the standings, in an unprecedented confrontation on the circuit. Later, at 3 p.m., the Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev will face the winner of the match between the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and the German Jan-Lennard Struff.
