Alexandre Galgani, from São Paulo, the only Brazilian representative in shooting at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, finished his participation in the 29th place of the air rifle R9 – 50 m – Prone Position Mixed SH2, this Friday 11, at the Cup World, held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
This Thursday 10, during the qualifications, the shooter scored 621.3 points, the fifth mark of his run and the 12th overall. On Friday, Alexandre could not repeat the performance of the day before and added 614.5 points, only ahead of Slovakian Kristina Funkova (612.7) in the second phase of the elimination round. Thus, the Brazilian did not qualify for the final.
Gold went to Serbian Dragan Ristic (629 points), followed by Frenchman Tanguy de La Forest (628.2) and Italian Livia Cecagallina (627.1), respectively silver and bronze.
It was Alexander’s second dispute in the competition. Last Tuesday, the 8th, in the first day of competitions with Brazilian athletes, Bruno Kiefer from São Paulo and Espírito Santo achieved the best marks in the Americas in the dispute Air rifle R4 – 10 m – Standing position Misto SH2. With 628.3 points, Alexandre ranked 16th, while Bruno scored 625.6 points and finished in 22nd place.
The race had other athletes from the Americas and all of them underperformed the Brazilians. North Americans Jazmin Almlie (621.5 points) and Madison Champion (612.7 points) were in 38th and 50th place respectively. Canadian Doug Blessin (620.7 points) finished the race in 42nd place. Finally, the Uruguayan Carmelo Milan, with 618.7 points, found himself in 45th position.
Another Brazilian who took part in the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates was André Colin, from São Paulo. In clay pigeon shooting (trap), the athlete placed 12th in the qualifying round, with 98 hits and did not advance to the final.
