Paris, France) – The last two places in the ATP Finals went to Russian Andrey Rublev and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. After winning their first matches at the Masters 1000 in Paris, they also benefited from the defeats of their direct competitors, the American Taylor Fritz and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz. The tournament between the top eight of the season will take place from November 13 to 20 in Turin.
Fritz’s chances of making the final were cut short by French veteran Gilles Simon, who again delayed his retirement and won a 3 hour 7/5, 5/7, 6/4 battle. Simon will be Aliassime’s next opponent in Paris.
Denmark’s Holger Rune was responsible for Hubert Hurkacz’s exit from the fight for a place in the final. In a good phase on the circuit, with a recent title in Stockholm and a final in Basel, the 19-year-old player and 18th in the standings beat the Pole by 7/5 and 6/1. He now faces Rublev in the round of 16 in the French capital.
At 22, Aliassime will make his first appearance in the final. The Canadian is undefeated in 14 games, having won tournaments in Florence, Antwerp and Basel in recent weeks. Rublev, 25, is taking part in the tournament for the third time in his career and is trying to get past the group stage for the first time.
The list of participants in the final also includes Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic.
