Fernando Alonso was the fastest driver in the second free practice session of the Canadian GP, held this Friday afternoon at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal. In another session marked by rain, the Spaniard ended up recording the best time of the day (1:15.810) while the track was still dry and, with the increase in rain, his rivals were unable to improve the Aston Martin driver’s record.
Second place went to George Russell, while third place went to local driver, Canadian Lance Stroll. Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo completed the top five respectively.

Leclerc nearly ran over a marmot at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
The session was accident-free, but it was marked by a scary moment. A small marmot was trying to cross the track as Leclerc approached. The little animal barely managed to “brake”, avoid the collision and return to where it came from.
Alexander Albon, who also shone by avoiding a crash, was left behind at the corner of the Wall of Champions, but quickly corrected to avoid the fall.
The riders return to the track this Saturday at 1:20 p.m. for the third free practice session of the Canadian GP. Check out the full weekend schedule below.
