The 2022 World Cup is marked not only by zebras on the pitch, but by the presence of women.
In Brazil, Renata Silveira has become the first woman to narrate World Cup matches on open television.
Narrator Globo’s performance was highly appreciated by the public who followed the broadcasts of the first and second rounds of the World Cup.
Also on the same channel, Ana Thaís Matos became the first woman to commentate a game for the Brazilian men’s World Cup team.
The duo delighted and made sports media history in Brazil with a performance at the World Cup in Qatar.
In addition to them, Globo has other women in the 2022 World Cup coverage team.
In Qatar, women also stole the show as a form of protest demanding the freedom of their rights.
During the opening match of the World Cup, Iranian players did not sing the anthem as a form of protest against the circumstances the country is going through.
In the stands, the crowd waved a flag with the following phrase “the freedom of women’s life”, which in Portuguese means: “freedom for women’s life”.
It was also possible to see the emotion of the fans when they were able to follow the men’s team during an official World Cup match.
Women make World Cup refereeing history
In the third round of the World Cup group stage, FIFA confirmed a female referee trio to referee the duel between Costa Rica and Germany, for group E.
Marking the history of the World Cup, the match will be refereed by the French Stéphanie Frappart, the Mexican Karen Diaz Medina and the Brazilian Neuza Back.
Additionally, in the VAR stand during the 2022 World Cup game will be Canadian Kathryn Nesbitt.
Two other names complete the women’s refereeing at the Worlds this year as a whole: Salima Mukansanga, from Rwanda, and Yamashita Yoshimi, from Japan.
