Argentinian police investigate tourist’s fall in Iguaçu Falls; a body has been found – The Gift

Argentinian police are investigating the disappearance of a 58-year-old Canadian tourist in the Iguazu Falls. The incident was recorded on the Argentinian side of the falls, in the town of Puerto Iguazú, around 11 a.m. on Monday (17).

According to an investigation by the Misiones State Police, the man was at a hotel near Iguazú National Park and asked for a taxi to get to the falls.

According to testimonies of witnesses, collected so far, the tourist climbed the parapet of the walkway and fell. Then he disappeared.

Everything happened, according to the police, at the height of the Mirante do Salto Bosetti – one of the falls of the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side.

On Tuesday (18), Foz do Iguaçu firefighters located the body of a man in the Iguaçu River, near the Tancredo Neves bridge, on the border with Argentina.

Argentinian authorities have been notified and are investigating whether the body belongs to the missing tourist.

Until the publication of this report, the body had not been identified at the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) of Foz do Iguaçu.

In a statement, the Parque Nacional do Iguazú said the case was under police investigation and that “out of respect for those involved in the event and in order not to interfere with the investigations, no statements will be done for the time being”.
