Aston Martin drivers optimistic for race in Brazil

Aston Martin will start the race weekend in Brazil with high hopes. Looking ahead to the races (Saturday’s sprint race and Sunday’s GP), Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll believe the team can score important points in the constructors’ race for sixth place.

It was a poor start for Aston Martin until 2022, but now the team have firmly established themselves in midfield. With two grands prix and a sprint race to go, sixth place among the constructors is not impossible, and with it an $84 million prize pool. Alfa Romeo still holds this position, but Aston Martin is only four points behind.

In previous sprint races Aston Martin have failed to score points, but Stroll sees chances to change that this weekend. “Overtaking is definitely possible here (Interlagos),” Stroll said in the team preview. “It puts us in a stronger position. If we can get the most out of our car this weekend, mainly because the sprint gives us two chances to perform well, then we should get some big points,” said the Canadian.

For Sebastian Vettel, this will probably be the last time he races on the Interlagos circuit. The four-time champion has been on the track quite often in Brazil, including leading the chaotic race in 2012, where the German claimed his third F1 title. “I have amazing memories here,” Vettel said. “It will be amazing to race this iconic circuit for the last time. Although we haven’t performed well in Mexico, our overall form has been strong recently. We will do everything to maximize the potential of the car in these last two races. It will be a difficult mission, but we are ready for it.
