At 54, Celine Dion reveals an incurable neurological disease and postpones shows

Celine Dion fans had a big scare this Thursday the 8th. It was that the singer revealed on social networks that she was suffering from a rare and incurable neurological disease and that she would therefore postpone her world tour.

At 54, the Canadian singer struggles with stiff person syndrome (RPS), in which the patient loses the ability to speak and walk due to muscle strain.

– Hi everyone, I’m sorry it took me so long to contact you. I miss you all so much and can’t wait to be on stage to talk to you in person. As you know, I’ve always been an open book and wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now. I have been dealing with health issues for a long time and it has been very difficult for me to face my challenges and talk about all that I have been through. I was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called rigid person syndrome, which affects one in a million people, it started.

And continued:

– While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know that’s what’s causing all the spasms I’ve had. Unfortunately, these spasms affect all aspects of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulty in walking and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing as I normally do. It pains me to tell you today that this means that I will not be ready to start my European tour again in February. I have a great team of doctors working by my side to help me get better and my precious children supporting and helping me.

– I work hard with my physio every day to regain my strength and my ability to perform again, but I have to admit it was a struggle. I only know how to sing, that’s what I’ve done all my life and that’s what I like to do the most. I miss it so much, I miss seeing you all on stage, playing for you. I always give 100% when I do my show, but my current state does not allow me to give you that right now. To reconnect with you, I have no choice but to focus on my health right now and hopefully I am on the road to recovery. It’s my goal and I’m doing everything I can to recover. I want to thank you so much for your greetings, your love and your support on my social networks. It means a lot to me. Take care of yourself. Be careful. I love you so much and I really hope I can see you again soon.
