The case was recorded in the duel between athletes from the cities of Paraguaçu Paulista (SP) and Assis (SP), played on Friday (21). According to the incident report, the racist offenses were recorded during the game’s social media broadcast by the Assis Volleyball Association (AVA).
At a certain point in the video, a member of the team launches a series of offensive comments against Jhonata Pontes, a setter for the Paraguaçu Paulista team, calling the victim a woman, in remarks also of a homophobic nature. (see above).

Then, the team member from Assis continues to insult the adversary, with pejorative comments on the phenotypic characteristics of the victim: “I don’t like her, leave her alone, if I grab her hair, I’m going to tear everything out of her, hard hair”.
On g1, Jhonata revealed that he found out about the offenses as soon as he left the court. According to him, the lines, in addition to generating outrage, also brought sadness due to hostility amid an environment that has always been welcoming to him.
“In volleyball, I found refuge to escape all my problems. Inside the court, I found family and friends to overcome my problems. To learn that there is no more room for prejudices and racism, the Internet is not a land of lawlessness”, he points out. out.
After the repercussions of the case, the video was removed from social media. The matter has been registered as a racial slur and is being investigated by civilian police.
“I hope justice will be done in the form of the law. Unfortunately, I am only one number among many who suffer from racism. My color is not an offense, my color is my origin and the story of a people who have always been oppressed and are exhausted from being belittled,” he said.
Repudiation on social networks
On the same day of the duel, which ended in a victory in 2 sets for the Assisi team, Vôlei Paraguaçu issued a note of repudiation on his profile on social networks against the offenses suffered by his player. The team specifies that it “will take the necessary measures against this unacceptable crime”.

Asked about the case, the State Department of Sports, responsible for organizing the competition, in a note sent to g1 Monday evening (24), repudiated “the episodes of racism and homophobia recorded during the match”.
The file also indicated “to be at the disposal of the civil police for the proper investigation and punishment of the offenders, since the matter has already been the subject of a police report by the victim”.
Finally, the secretariat said that the “disciplinary committee is analyzing the request for the exclusion of the Assis team from the tournament, requested by official letter this Monday by the direction of sports and leisure of Paraguaçu Paulista”. The decision should be announced within the week.
