President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) broke the silence on Tuesday 1st, in a brief speech at the Palácio da Alvorada. Bolsonaro made no direct mention of the victory of Luis Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the elections from last Sunday, 31. “I will continue to fulfill all the commandments of our Constitution,” the president said.
Bolsonaro spoke for less than three minutes and did not respond to press inquiries. Since the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) formalized Lula’s victory at 7:56 p.m. on Sunday, Bolsonaro has not commented on the result. Leaders of countries like the United States, China, France, Canada and Argentina had already congratulated Lula on his victory.
Bolsonaro thanked the 58 million votes he received last Sunday and commented on the protests. “Peaceful protests will always be welcome, but our methods cannot be those of the left, which have always harmed people, such as invading property, destroying heritage and restricting the right to go and come.“, said the president.
Shortly after Bolsonaro’s speech, Civil House Minister Ciro Nogueira informed that the government will proceed with the transition of government starting this Thursday 3. Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), vice-president of Lula’s ticket, is expected to be the middleman. .

I want to start by thanking the 58 million Brazilians who voted for me on October 30. The current popular movements are the result of indignation and a feeling of injustice in the face of the conduct of the electoral process.
Peaceful protests will always be welcome, but our methods cannot be those of the left, which have always harmed people, such as invading property, destroying heritage and restricting the right to come and go. .
The right has really emerged in our country. Our strong representation in Congress shows the strength of our values: God, country, family and freedom.
We have trained several leaders in Brazil. Our dreams are more alive than ever. We are for order and progress. Even in the face of the whole system, one overcomes a pandemic and the consequences of a war.
I have always been labeled as undemocratic and, unlike my accusers, I have always played within the four lines of the Constitution. I never talked about controlling or censoring the media and social networks.
As President of the Republic and as a citizen, I will continue to fulfill all the commandments of our Constitution.
It is an honor to be the leader of millions of Brazilians who, like me, defend economic freedom, religious freedom, freedom of opinion, honesty and the green-yellow colors of our flag.
Thanks a lot.
