Hobart (Australia) – While several top 10 players are entered into WTA 500 Adelaide 2, WTA 250 Hobart is happening concurrently and will be an option for players who have failed to enter such a strong bracket. The headliners of the event will be the Czech Marie Bouzkova, 24th in the world, and the Belgian Elise Mertens, 29th.

Bouzkova makes her debut against Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian. And if you win, you can face the Italian Lucia Bronzetti or a tennis player from the qualifications. In the same quadrant is Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, seeded 8, who takes on North American Claire Liu.

Still at the top of the table, Sloane Stephens is the fourth seed and will face a player from qualification. She could face Belgium’s Ysaline Bonaventure in the round of 16, while Poland’s Magda Linette is a possible quarter-final rival.

The debut of Elise Mertens will face another quality athlete. If she confirms her favoritism, the Belgian could face the American Sofia Kenin or the Chinese Lin Zhu. Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, Canadian Rebecca Marino and German Tatjana Maria are in the same quadrant. Mertens is a two-time tournament champion in 2017 and 2018, while Kenin won the 2019 edition.

Champion of the 2016 edition, the French Alizé Cornet is the third seed and makes her debut against the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto. If she wins, she could face fellow Italian Jasmine Paolini or Romanian Patricia Tig. Her quadrant still includes North American Bernarda Pera, who faces compatriot Madison Brengle.
