Brazil finishes Junior Swimming World Cup without medals

This Saturday (9), Brazil concluded its participation in the Junior Swimming World Cup, in Netanya, Israel and left without a medal. The only final with the participation of a Brazilian athlete was the 100m freestyle with Pedro Sansone.

Pedro, who reached the race final with the third fastest time, finished seventh with a mark of 49.67. Gold went to Maximus Willamson (USA), with a time of 48.45, silver to Lorenzo Ballarati (ITA) and bronze to Edward Sommerville.

In the 1,500m freestyle event, Brazilians Matheus Melecchi and Leonardo Alcantara finished 11th and 12th, with times of 15:37.08 and 15:39.26. Turkey’s Kurzey Tuncelli won gold with a time of 14:59.80, followed by Korea’s Junwoo Kim and China’s Zhanshuo Zhang.

Samuel Lopes was excluded from the 200m backstroke final by only four hundredths. He clocked 2:02.34 to 2:02.30 for Canadian Aiden Norman, who finished eighth.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Manuela Sega ran a time of 2:42.22 and finished the race in 24th place. Heitor Napolitano finished 18th in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.53.

Brazil had two representatives in the women’s 200m freestyle. Thaiana Amaral ran 2:02:58 and finished 14th, and Céline Bispo finished 26th with 2:05.48.

Medal table

The United States leads the medal table with 15 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze. Australia finished second with 9 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze and Canada finished third with 2 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze.
