Santiago, Chile) – In addition to the singles draws, the Santiago Pan American Games also drew the doubles draws, with Brazil being the main favorite in the men’s, women’s and mixed tournaments. In all three cases, the national partnership is the number 1 seed.
Bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, São Paulo’s Luisa Stefani and Laura Pigossi lead the women’s group, making their debut directly in the quarterfinals against Ecuador’s Mell Reasco and Camila Romero. They should meet in the semi-final with the Chileans Alexa Guarachi and Fernanda Labraña.
Among the men, Marcelo Demoliner from Rio Grande do Sul and Gustavo Heide from São Paulo also enter directly into the quarterfinals and await the winners of the duel between the North Americans Omni Kumar/Evan Zhu and the Jamaicans Blaise Bicknell/Rowland Philipps.
The semi-final crossover is expected to pit Dominicans Roberto Cid and Nick Hardt or the Argentinian partnership of Facundo Bagnis and Facundo Dias Acosta against the Brazilians.
In mixed doubles, Stefani and Demoliner also only start in the quarter-finals, awaiting the winners of the match between the Canadians Justin Boulais/Rebecca Marino and the Hondurans Alejandro Obando/Natalie Espinal. In the semis, they must cross paths with the Bolivians Federico Zeballos and Noelia Zeballos.
Still in the same half of the Brazilian mixed group are the Chileans Gonzalo Lama and Alexa Guarachi, a pair playing at home and who could surprise. They made their debut against the Argentinians Facundo Dias Acosta and Martina Capurro.
