Brazilian tennis players met this Sunday (28) their first opponents in men’s and women’s doubles at Roland Garros, the second grand slam of the year.
In women’s doubles, Luisa Stefani, alongside Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, will face the duo of Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto and German Tatjana Maria.
Bia Haddad Maia, who teams up with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, will face the duo of Estonian Kaia Kanepi and Slovak Tereza Mihalikova.
In the men’s doubles tournament, Rafael Matos and Portugal’s Francisco Cabral will make their debut against Australian Open champions Rikyi Hijikata and Jason Kubler of Australia.
Marcelo Melo, partner of Australian John Peers, will face the pair formed by American Willian Blumberg and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
The last Brazilian in the group, Marcelo Demoliner, who plays alongside the Italian Andrea Vavassori, will face the Chilean Nicolas Jarry and the Swiss Marc Huesler.
Monteiro has a new opponent
Brazilian Thiago Monteiro will have a new opponent for his debut in the Roland Garros singles tournament.
Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi has withdrawn from the competition and now Monteiro will face German Yannick Hanfmann, who enters as a Lucky Loser in the grand slam.
Hanfmann reached the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters 1000 which ended last week, beating two top 10s along the way.
As well as Monteiro, Thiago Wild will also be in the men’s tournament, where he will make his debut against world number 2 Russian Danill Medvedev.
