The 10th edition of the “Força Bruta” event brings together some of the main international names in the sport

Flávio Nunes, from Campo Grande, will be the only Brazilian in the event Strong man – “Força Bruta” -, which will take place this Sunday (15), in Cotia (SP), in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.

Campo Grande will enter the dispute that brings together some of the main international names in the modality eager to make history, such as the Uruguayan Marcelo Martinez, the Bolivian Cristian Quiroga and the Colombian Emanuel Mendoza Mosqueira, known as El Buffalo . “Of course I expect to win the Brute Force. I want to be the first Brazilian to win this title,” he says.

Nunes also recalled the names of Brazilians who marked the history of the sport. “Since the beginning of the journey in Strong man I remember as a reference the names of the strongest guys in Brazil, Marcos Ferrari and Tiago Aparecido,” he pointed out.

The athlete got the vacant position to represent Brazil in Força Bruta. In December, he won the Força & Movimento title, an event also held at Parque Teresa Maia. “I knew that the competition would be very difficult, because there were very strong competitors, including two professional athletes, with several international competitions. Thank God I got the best performance,” concluded Flávio.

Evidence

The events in dispute are Barrel Throwing (Keg Toss), Viking Press, Medley composed of Stairs (Power Stairs) and Atlas Stone and the infamous Heavy Load, with the pull of a bus.

Traditional in Brute Force, in the Barrel Throw, the athletes will have to throw barrels of six different weights (15kg + 16kg + 17kg + 18kg + 19kg + 20kg) on a bar five meters high. Whoever throws the most barrels in 60 seconds wins.

Inspired by the work of Norse warriors building their boats, when they lifted logs of wood, the Viking Press uses a device designed for athletes to lift themselves off their shoulders. In Força Bruta 2023, 150 kilos will be placed “on the backs” of the athletes. Whoever gets the most reps in 60 seconds wins.

In combined Medley 2-in-1 style competitions, the strong men they will have to climb five steps carrying loads of 160kg, 180kg and 200kg and finish with the Atlas Stone, in which they must place, from the ground, a ball of stone weighing 140kg on a shelf. The winner will be the one who completes the test in the shortest possible time. Finally, each athlete must pull a bus weighing approximately 15 tons as far as possible.

The Canadian won in 2022

The title of last year’s edition of Força Bruta went to Canadian JF Caron. Second was Rauno Heinla of Estonia, followed by Rob Kearney of the United States and Dmitrii Skosyrskii of Russia.

Caron won three contested races at Cotia last year. He lifted a ton in the Human Cart event, sent 215 pounds through the air in the Barrel Throw and dragged 12 tons in the Heavy Cargo competition.

“It was a very tough competition and I’m very happy with the result. The most demanding tests were the deadlift (wagon) and the truck. But the crowd was amazing, made a lot of noise and left the tournament in a very positive mood,” said the Canadian shortly after his victory.
