The Government of Canada has announced the veto of the Chinese candidacy ICT Tac on the mobile phones of all state employees, following decisions taken by the United States and the European Union.
“I understand that if the government makes this important decision to tell its employees that they can no longer use TikTok on their work phones, many Canadians, from private companies, will think about the security of personal data and then do a choice,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
- European Parliament to ban TikTok on employee phones
- Italy could ban TikTok on civil servants’ phones due to ‘national security risk’
This Tuesday (28), the European Parliament announced that it would veto the use of the app on employees’ mobile phones for security reasons. The European decisions, which have been criticized by the social network, come after the American government took the same measure over fears that the Chinese government could collect sensitive data via TikTok – which the application denies.
The official announcement is to be made “soon” and follows the same measure adopted last week by the European Commission and the European Council.
