Canada faces serious connection issues due to provider failure

A breakdown at the communications company Rogers emerged in Canada with major connection problems this Friday (July 8).

According to the Downdetector site, thousands of complaints about connection problems have occurred since Friday at 6 a.m. (Brasilia time), affecting several major Canadian cities such as Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

The connection problem can cause great damage mainly in the Toronto region, one of the most affected by the problem, which today has the fastest growing technology center in the Americas.

Rogers has yet to share details of the issue, only confirming the existence of the failure, and that the company is working to correct what caused several adversities in the country this morning. “We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. We are aware of the problems affecting our networks and our teams are fully mobilized to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We will continue to update you as we have more information to share,” Rogers said in a statement on Twitter.

The communication problems in the country are of a gigantic scale. According to NetBlocks, real-time data shows connectivity in Canada is down to 75% of normal connectivity levels in the country. Logically, this caused great inconvenience.

Toronto police have already confirmed residents across the city are having difficulty calling emergency services this morning.

Additionally, communication issues affect financial transactions, including credit card payments. The Bank of Montreal posted on its official Twitter a confirmation of the problem. “We can confirm that there is an ongoing Rogers outage affecting all financial institutions and causing disruptions to INTERAC services, BMO toll-free numbers and transaction processing. Efforts are underway to resolve this issue as soon as possible. »

INTERAC also confirmed the issue, saying that “there is a national Rogers outage covering all of its business and consumer network services. This affects INTERAC Debit and INTERAC e-Transfer. INTERAC Debit is currently not available online and at checkout. INTERAC e-Transfer services are not available at most financial institutions, which affects the ability to send and receive payments. We await updates from Rogers on its resolution,” the Canadian Interbank Network confirmed.

Even sport is affected by the problem. The NHL, a professional ice hockey league with teams in the United States and Canada, organizes the draft – the distribution of young talent between teams – in Montreal. With phone outages, teams are instructed to avoid cell phones and stick to calls with landlines.
