The Canadian government hopes to attract more than one million foreigners in the coming years.

The Government of Canada has announced that it has lifted the 20-hour workweek limitation for students. The decision is due to the difficulty of filling vacancies in this period of post-pandemic economic recovery. The decision comes into effect on November 15 and remains in effect until December 31, 2023, with the possibility of extension.

The Canadian government hopes to attract more than one million foreigners in the coming years to meet the strong demand for labour. There are vacancies in various segments including technology, healthcare, and business. It is possible to guarantee admission to a study and work program with an initial investment of 500 Canadian dollars (CAD), or approximately R$1,800.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser explained the reasons for the decision. “This measure will provide many international students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in Canada and increase the availability of workers to support the growth of our country. It is estimated that around 500,000 students who are already in the country will benefit from the measure.
