Six games shook the Women’s Nations League (VNL) this Friday (14), marked by a new victory for Brazil and an isolated leadership of the competition. With Tainara highlighted, the Brazilians beat Bulgaria in two sets and remained at the top of the standings, with 11 wins in 11 games played. The last challenge of the Brazilian team in this stage will be against Turkey, Sunday (16), at 5 a.m. Brasilia-DF time.
Another highlight of the VNL round this Friday (14), was the resounding victory of the Netherlands over Canada in two sets, which eliminated the Canadian team in the race for Paris 2024. Now, the Netherlands only depends on itself in the last challenge of this stage against South Korea to secure an Olympic place. The match will take place this Saturday (15), at 23:30, Brasilia-DF time.
VNL vice-leader Poland recovered from the setback suffered by Brazil last Thursday (13) and played 3 sets to 0 in the Dominican Republic, in partials of 33/31, 25/20 and 25/16. With this result, the Polish team is mathematically qualified for the final, in Bangkok, Thailand.
VNL standings updated after this Friday’s matches (14):
- 1st Brazil 31/11
- 2nd Poland 27/09
- 3rd Italy 8/25
- 4th Türkiye 8/24
- 5th Japan 7/22
- 6th China 7/21
- 7th USA 6/19
- 8th Netherlands 6/18
- 9th Canada 6/17
- 10th Serbia 3/9
- 11th Dominican 3/9
- 12th Thailand 3/7
- 13th France 2/8
- 14th Germany 2/6
- 15th South Korea 2/6
- 16th Bulgaria 1/3
With Thailand excluded from the G8, if the VNL were to conclude today, the host team would qualify in last place and would thus be Brazil’s opponent in the quarter-finals. The clashes being decided in an “Olympic crossover”, Poland x USA, Italy x China and Turkey x Japan would be the other clashes in the final phase.
