Canadian athlete’s coach kicked out of Olympics after sexual harassment allegations

Rana Reider, coach of Canadian athlete André de Grasse, had his accreditation revoked by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) last Monday (5). According to information revealed last week, Reider is accused of sexual harassment following complaints from three female athletes.

According to The Times newspaper, three women have filed a lawsuit against the American in a court located in Florida, United States. According to one of the complaints, the technician allegedly committed sexual and emotional abuse and harassment; another victim reports sexual and verbal harassment.

Rana served a one-year probation period, which expired in May 2024 – without any suspension or sanction – according to the COC. Although he was free to act, new charges were filed and the coach, who had not yet spoken out, had his accreditation revoked.

The world champion athlete will therefore not be able to count on his coach to participate in the 200m. See the official note published by the Canadian Olympic Committee below:

“Rana Reider was certified as a personal trainer, with access only to the warm-up area and athletics training facilities. The decision to provide him with this access was based on the understanding that his probationary period at the US Center for Safe Sport ended in May of this year, that he was not subject to any other suspensions or sanctions, and that he otherwise met our eligibility criteria. On Sunday, August 4, we learned of new information regarding Mr. Reider’s ability to remain accredited with Team Canada for the Paris 2024 Games. At Athletics Canada, it has been agreed that Mr. Reider’s accreditation be revoked.”
