Canadian Dana Herlihey, 30, is not crazy about skeletons, and even less about goth. However, last year he started posting photos of a skeleton acting like it was human. The law project OMG literally dead (something like “oh my God, I literally died”) in three months, he already has more than 100,000 followers.
The “obsession” with Skellie, as Dana calls her skeleton, started with a joke in the Toronto office where she works as a social media manager. They bought a skeleton for Halloween last October and their colleagues started playing with the plastic creature.
“One day I arrived at work early and saw that someone had placed a Starbucks cup in the skull’s hands. The scene was funny and I decided to take a photo and post it on my personal Instagram account,” Dana explained in an interview.
Over time, she decided to create an account exclusively for this purpose and purchased a skeleton to feature in pictures outside the office.
In an email interview, Dana Herlihey talks about how she takes photos with Skellie in public places, how she transports the skeleton and what her loved ones think about all this. Follow the key excerpts below:
UOL Tecnologia: Where did the idea of taking photos with a skeleton come from?
Dana Herlihey: In October, my office staff purchased a skull for Halloween. My colleagues and I started making fun of the skull on each of our chairs.
One day I arrived at work early and saw that someone had placed a Starbucks cup in the skull’s hands. The scene was funny and I decided to take a photo to post on my personal Instagram account.
I took a few photos over the next few days and eventually decided to create an Instagram account exclusively for the skeleton.
UOL Tecnologia: Where did you get the skeleton? Have you bought one or already have one?
Dana: The skeleton was originally purchased for office decoration – it’s one of those simple, plastic skeletons. Then I bought one. On Instagram, I use my work and my staff.
UOL Tecnologia: Where do you keep the skeleton?
Dana:Skellie stays home with me – sometimes in my bed, other times on the couch. I suspect she and Boomer [gato de Dana] They have many adventures when I’m not home.
UOL Tecnologia: You take photos of Skellie in very different places. How do you charge it?
Dana: If I’m going somewhere far away, I put it in my backpack. Her knees bend, making her compact.
In this brunch image – which was, incidentally, his first public appearance – I carried him in my backpack and took him out when the food arrived. Since I was with friends, they helped me take the photo.
UOL Tecnologia: Do your loved ones think you’re a little crazy for taking photos of a skeleton and sometimes having to carry it?
Dana: My relatives love Skellie, but they really think I’m weird. Despite this, they support me and find it cheap.
I don’t think my dad understands what I do and why it’s popular. I suspect he finds it amusing because it’s weird.
