One day left before the opening of the world Cup from Qatar. The start of the tournament takes place this Sunday, at 1 p.m. (Brasília time), with the match between the selection of the host country against Ecuador. In this year’s edition of the tournament, Canadian fan Lee Komish will attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
At 44, the football fanatic intends to follow 41 matches of the current edition of the World Cup. This way, the fan would break the current record of Thulani Ngcobo of South Africa who played 31 games in the 2010 World Cup.
“It’s not easy and it takes work, but I love it,” Kormish told the newspaper. Toronto Star.
Canada returns to the biggest national team tournament in the world after 36 years. A member of Group F, the Canadian team makes its World Cup debut on November 23, at 4 p.m., against Belgium. Croatia and Morocco complete the list of opponents for the first phase.
Qatar’s logistics facilitate the fan’s ambition to break the record for most games watched at a World Cup. The longest distance from one stadium to another is only 50 km. Even so, the mission will not be easy, in addition to being present at the matches, the Canadian will have to have two witnesses to confirm his presence at the event.
“I’ve been waiting for this all my life, always in love. We had a lot of dark times. Words can’t explain. Chills down my spine, just the shivers all over my body. How cool? That the Canada is there when a Canadian breaks the Guinness record.”
The Canadian has been planning the plan to break the record since last year. During the trip, fans assumed the hardest part was getting tickets to the game. The fan has been to other World Cups before, but this will be the first time he’s seen Canada on the pitch.
