Chancellor held more than 50 bilateral meetings in two months
In two months, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, held more than 50 bilateral meetings with representatives of other countries.
The Chancellor’s intense agenda aims to reposition Brazil in international relations, a request from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), after four years of troubled dialogue between the government of Jair Bolsonaro and other countries.
In almost 60 days, Mauro Vieira met, in Brazil and abroad, diplomats from France, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, among other countries.
He also met with envoys from the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO), among other international organizations.
When he was appointed head of Itamaraty, Mauro Vieira received Lula’s order to restore diplomatic bridges between the country and other states, in order to elevate Brazil to the rank of protagonist in international discussions.
On the other hand, sources at the Foreign Ministry say there has been an increase in demand for Brazil from other countries this year.
This month, Lula is expected to travel to China, where he will meet President Xi Jinping. The petista has already traveled to Argentina, Uruguay and the United States in recent months.
meetings
Last week, Minister Mauro Vieira was in New Delhi, India, for the meeting of the Chancellors of the G20, a group formed by the world’s 20 largest economies. There, the Minister personally met with US Secretary Anthony Blinken.
During the meeting, the two diplomatic representatives discussed issues such as bilateral trade relations between the United States and Brazil, as well as the fight against deforestation and Brazil’s role in the search for a solution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
In addition to meetings in Brazil and abroad, telephone conversations were also on the agenda.
