Despite being runners-up at the Copa do Brasil, Corinthians fans are happy with the work of Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira. The team’s marked improvement throughout the season makes Corinthians believe that the continuity of the coach at the club is the best solution to clinch titles next season.
Faced with uncertainties over the renewal of Vítor Pereira’s contract with Corinthians, white and white fans have decided to use social networks to seduce the Portuguese. This Monday, #FicaVP is one of the most discussed topics on Twitter.
Vítor Pereira has been the subject of weekly quizzes over the streak of his connection with Corinthians. The coach has already clarified that this decision depended on the will of his family, who remained in Portugal. Vítor Pereira has confirmed that he has had conversations with president Duílio Monteiro Alves, but he doesn’t give any big clues as to what decision he will make.
“I have already sat down with the president and we discuss things. There is no decision. There is a beginning of conversation. He already realized what was happening, a long time ago. I want (to stay), sincerely,” said the coach after the victory over Santos last Saturday, in Vila Belmiro, by 1-0.
“The family issue is fundamental for me. I can’t give up my family to be happy. If I stay here, I must feel that they are fine. I won’t feel good if they don’t do well. It is not a simple situation. It would be a heavy move (of the family, from one country to another),” Vítor Pereira said of the need for family approval to continue in Brazil.
The discussion is not just about the coach. His coaching staff also has family restrictions. “It’s not just my situation, everyone has small children, Felipe (Almeida, assistant) only has one son, who has just been born. It’s been months and months without seeing the baby, the others also have grandchildren. Being a coach is a wonderful thing, but family gets left behind. In the last 12 years, I haven’t seen my children, I haven’t followed their growth,” says Vítor Pereira.
Vítor Pereira’s main objective in this last part of the season is to bring Corinthians to second place in the Brazilian league. At the moment, the dispute is concentrated with Internacional and Flamengo. The alvinegra team plays again on Wednesday, at 9:45 p.m., against Fluminense, at the Neo Química Arena.
