The Mayor of Marechal Cândido Rondon, Marcio Rauber, has sanctioned Law No. 5,400, which names the sports complex under construction in the Vila Gaúcha district, to Marechal Cândido Rondon, as Daniel Henrique Engelmann.

The structure is being built near the Lutheran Congregation Cristo É Vida (IELB), of which Engelmann was an active member.

This is a bill drafted by Councilman Pedro Rauber, with the aim of honoring Engelmann, who died while on an official Brazilian military mission in 2020, as part of Operation Horus.

HISTORY – The winner was born in Marechal Cândido Rondon on June 21, 2000. Son of Liane Trarbach Engelmann and Ivan Cezar Engelmann, he was an officer in the Brazilian army.

He has lived since his childhood in Vila Gaúcha. In this part of the city, he often took part in activities at the neighborhood CMEI and the Escola 25 de Março. He also took advantage of his free time to play football in the neighborhood gymnasium, in partnership with the “Os Meninos da Vila” project.

Likewise, he attended Cristo É Vida, where he was president of the youth group.

On May 10, 2020, soldiers from the 15th Motorized Infantry Company, in Guaíra, participated in Operation Horus, along with other public security agencies. Three Brazilian army soldiers saw their ship attacked by a clandestine speedboat which, at high speed, caused a collision. Third Sergeant Douglas Pascoal Ripp and Private Fernando Borges Zwicker managed to survive the impact, but Private Daniel could not resist and died.

He received posthumous tributes in Brasília (DF) about two months later. The soldier’s family received decorations and congratulations from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Ministry of Defense and the Army General Staff.

At the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the soldier’s photo inaugurated the Heroes Gallery of the VIGIA (National Border and Border Security) program, a space that immortalizes the fearlessness, honesty and pride of those who sacrificed their own lives during functional duty period. President Jair Bolsonaro and other civil and military authorities of the Republic were present at the portrait unveiling ceremony.

At Army Headquarters, Private Daniel’s family received a medal presented by Army Commander General Edson Leal Pujol. This decoration is intended to distinguish those who have accomplished a remarkable action or a relevant service in favor of the interest and reputation of the institution.
