Day is the first guest on Who Is Your Ídolo?, Rolling Stone Brasil’s original podcast, which puts music stars back in the role of fans
Limns Daymade every fan’s dream come true last September when she was asked to open her idol’s show, April Lavigne, during his visit to São Paulo. The encounter – and the difficulty of establishing closer contact with the Canadian singer – was the subject of the first episode of Who is your idol?new music and entertainment podcast from Rolling Stone Brazil🇧🇷
“I didn’t have that expectation. [de um encontro mais próximo] all because I’ve been a fan for a long time and I know my idol’s type, she doesn’t have a great history with the fans,” Day explains. In the podcast, she even talks about how this relationship started, in the distant 2002.
Day, who had never been able to attend a concert of her idol up close, ended up securing the winning ticket in 2022, when she received a call from her manager two days before the Canadian’s visit to São Paulo, confirming to her that she would be the first part of Abril at the Espaço Unimed, on September 7: “I had no voice, but I kept screaming”.
On the podcast, Day detailed how the meeting went behind the scenes:
“I arrived very calm, they gave us our Avril Lavigne Tour sticker – which I already lost, I got angry [risos]🇧🇷 And then I arrived, took a picture, posted it in story, excited. And then I went near the stage and someone comes and says ‘guys, for god’s sake, delete everything you posted, you can’t post the scene, you can’t post behind the scenes, or the credentials, or wander around here too much'”
Day continues: “Then she came with the armored car, inside the building, she opened the locker room door and I didn’t even see her enter. Really armored, as I imagined. What a shame! ” [risos]🇧🇷
According to Day, Avril’s security made sure the singer had no contact with anyone outside of production. But that didn’t stop her from trying — and getting a brief nod from the idol:
“But I was there and I was like, ‘Guys, let’s try something.’ And then, when she was about to go on stage, they told us to stop emptying the boxes at that time. I was supposed to be professional, but my team doesn’t help me be that professional, everyone knew I really wanted to meet her, so we turned off the light and pretended to get out, we stayed hidden in the dressing room. didn’t even know if I could count that [risos]🇧🇷 I had already opened the show, thank God, otherwise I would have been kicked out of there. Then when we decided to leave, she was also leaving hers, so my partner and I stayed outside at the door and waited for her to pass. When she passed, I could see her pass. She passed, looked, turned around, I waved. She turned around, waved her hand and smiled a little. I am nearsighted and at that time I was very sad to be nearsighted, because I saw his face a little blurry. Then they said to me: ‘She smiled at you!’ And I just jumped on my partner, I shouted, ‘she smiled at me, she knows who I am, she looked me in the face!'”
