Draft sets discount on energy rates for LGBTQIAP+ shelters for people in need

Bill 1182/23 establishes a 30% discount on the value of electricity rates applicable to shelters that house LGBTQIAP+ people in need (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual and others) sexual orientations and gender identities).

Currently being analyzed by the Chamber of Deputies, the text inserts the measure into the Law 12.212/10which deals with the social tariff for electricity.

Author of the project, MP Clodoaldo Magalhães (PV-PE) affirms that many LGBTQIAP+ people suffer from discrimination within their own families and seek shelters to welcome them.

“However, these host institutions face great difficulties in obtaining the necessary resources to cover the costs of the assistance action they promote, being forced to fight to remain in operation,” he said. .

“Among the most important expenses they have to bear is paying electricity bills, which have seen strong growth in recent years,” he added. His idea is therefore to contribute to the economic sustainability of these shelters.
