The last day of May 2023 will go down in the history of Currais Novos, 180 kilometers from Natal, as the start of work on the Borborema gold extraction unit by Aura Minerals, with a 100% sustainable project of ore mining. The foundation stone was laid this morning in the presence of Governor Fátima Bezerra, Mayor Odon Jr and Aura Minerals CEO Rodrigo Barbosa.
A Canadian company with Brazilian shareholders since 2016, Aura Minerals is present in countries such as Mexico, Honduras, and with projects in Mato Grosso and Tocantins, and soon in Colombia. At Currais Novos, the project will be a global example of being 100% sustainable, as the CEO of the company commented. “In Currais Novos we will be a great icon for the world, with the use of renewable energies, the use of water with wastewater treatment and 100% of the water will be reused and without dams. We want a quality of life and health and favor the local workforce,” he commented. Aura Minerals will invest more than 500 million reais in the project and will use one of the best technologies in the world to extract the other.
For Mayor Odon Jr, the commitment of the municipality and the state government has been fundamental to the success of the project aimed at the development of Rio Grande do Norte. “A great happiness at the moment and which means a lot for our city. We will have a significant impact on our society, collecting taxes and creating jobs and income, a project that will mark the history of Currais Novos,” he commented.
