Evandro, Arthur beat Canadians, Brazil closes Olympic first round with beach volleyball wins – Play

With the victory of Evandro and Arthur Facing the Canadian duo Julian Horl and Alexander Horst, Brazil completed this Sunday (28) the first round of the classification phase of beach volleyball at the Paris-2024 Olympic Games with 100% success and without losing a set. That day, there were still the triumphs of Ana Patricia and DudaAnd Carol Solberg and Barbara Seixas. Yesterday, André and Georges Moroccans Mohamed Abicha and Zouheir Elgraoui beat them at the Eiffel Tower stadium.

The last match of the greens and yellows in Paris did not start so well, however, with nervousness setting the tone until halfway through the first set. Well into the match, with a 10-7 lead, the Austrians began to come up against the Brazilian blockade and to become irritated by their mistakes. In a new ball neutralized by Evandro and Brazil opening two leads, with 14 to 12, they asked for time to try to restructure themselves.

But the Brazilian excitement ended up being maintained, with beautiful serves from Evandro and Arthur, then a drop, and a significant advantage of 17 to 14. The Brazilian strength and the anger in the shots ended up causing a ball in front of Horst in a cut by Arthur, forgiven by the opponent who almost had his glasses broken. Without allowing a reaction from the Canadians, Brazil closed the partial with 21 to 18.

The start of the second set was even until Arthur sent the ball and the Canadians took a two-point lead. Evandro also made an error after that and Brazil repeated the first half, once again trailing 10-7.

Brazil turned the game around with back-to-back points at 13-12, forcing another timeout from the Canadians, who were in disbelief after losing a comfortable lead once again. The break was important to keep their focus.

However, on Horl’s serve at the net, Brazil had their first match point, at 20-19. Evandro served, the ball hit the net and fell in. The excitement of the victory came only after the result of the Austrians’ challenge confirmed that the Brazilian had not crossed the line after the serve.
