Aston Martin is pleased with the progress made in the 2023 Formula 1 season and hopes to come back strongly next year. At the Abu Dhabi GP, Fernando Alonso finished seventh and Lance Stroll tenth.
Mike Krack, Team Principal: “I am happy that we can finish this successful season with both cars in the points. There weren’t many opportunities in a race without retirements. We did what we could, passing Yuki (Tsunoda) with Fernando to finish seventh, and Lance gained three positions to score the final point. Reflecting on the season, I only see the positive and the huge progress we have made compared to last year. We had some special days, especially at the start of the season, and we came back strong during the last races. It was our best season as a team, with 280 points compared to 55 last season. I want to thank everyone at the track and at AMRTC for all their hard work. Also to our fans and all our partners, because without their support we would not have been able to achieve this progress,” he concluded.
Alonso: “If you had told me before this weekend that I would finish fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, I wouldn’t have believed you, so it’s a real gift. I am very satisfied with the way I drove throughout the season. I think it was my best and most consistent season since 2012. I think I got the most out of the car all year. The whole Aston Martin team has worked very hard and I am already looking forward to starting work for 2024. Finally, a big thank you and congratulations to everyone on the team. This year has far exceeded all of our wildest expectations, and everyone should be proud of what we have accomplished,” he added.
Stroll: “We decided to start the race on hard tires and do a long stint in the hope of having a safety car and one stop, but it wasn’t like that, so we ended up opting for a two-stop strategy. Despite everything, I think we attacked well today and progressed on the grid. We tend to have better pace on Sunday, and that was certainly the case today. I am happy that we finished 2023 with a stronger performance that we can be proud of. It was definitely a learning year. We have had our ups and downs, but we are in a good position for next year,” concluded the Canadian.
