Fabricio Farias and Davi Silva won the silver medal this Wednesday (25) in men’s badminton doubles at the Pan American Games, in Santiago.
The Brazilian duo faced Canadians Nyu Yakura and Xingyu Dong in the decider.
In the first set, the Brazilians came from behind, losing 2-0, but turned the tables and stayed in the lead until the end, winning the match 21-19 in 19 minutes.
In the second half, the match was also balanced, but with the Canadians in the lead for most of the match, and they ended up winning the set 21-17 in 20 minutes.
In the last round, the Canadians widened the gap and never lost the lead. The Brazilians still managed to reduce the gap from 6 to 2 points, but in the end the Canadian duo won 21-18 in 23 minutes and closed the match 2-1 after 61 minutes.
This is Davi’s second medal at the Pan, after winning bronze in mixed doubles alongside Sania Lima on Tuesday (24).
Asked what was missing to win the gold medal, the athletes responded that they were tense at the end, but that the Canadians were superior and won in the details. “We lacked a little experience at the end. I ended up getting a little tense. It’s about lifting your head and moving on to the next thing,” Davi commented. The duo formed just 4 months ago and the athletes said the result was positive. “We are fighting hard and we know how difficult it is to be here, to represent our country, to represent our families,” Fabricio revealed.
