Qatar – The Belgian national team will have to make a major change in their kit during the World Cup. Indeed, Fifa has banned the jersey from displaying the word “amour” (love, in English). As a result, the white jersey, which was created to represent the values of diversity, equality and inclusion, will need to be modified for use in Qatar.

The Belgian federation, UEFA and Adidas, the team’s sports equipment supplier, have not yet commented on the case. On social networks, supporters around the world criticize the attitude taken by FIFA.

Hours before the ban on the Belgian shirt, Fifa informed national teams that captains are not allowed to enter the pitch with the “One Love” armband, which defends the rights of the LGBTQIA+ cause. If a player enters the field using this belt, he will receive a yellow card from the start of the match.

Belgium are in Group F of the competition alongside Croatia, Canada and Morocco and will make their World Cup debut in Qatar against the Canadians, this Wednesday (23), at 4 p.m. (Brasilia time), at Al Rayyan Stadium.
