Encourage the practice of physical activity, this is the main objective of challenge daywhich this year takes place next Wednesday, May 31st. This will be the 29th edition of the global campaign to encourage the practice of physical and sports activities carried out by public and private institutions in 14 Latin American countries. Sesc Ceará has prepared several free activities open to the public that will take place both in the units and in public spaces

With the aim of not letting anyone stand still, the campaign encourages the practice of at least 15 minutes of activity and brings the slogan Challenge Day: much more than a day. This edition aims to raise awareness among public managers and institutions to develop community projects focused on sport, physical activities and urban mobility, using content related to the concept of tactical urbanism, a comprehensive methodology to stimulate the occupation of urban spaces for people.

“It’s important that people try to exercise, look for a physical activity that gives them pleasure and satisfaction, like walking outside, for example. This year’s Challenge Day brings this proposal, to occupy public spaces for the practice of physical exercise and the Sesc, as a great supporter of sport, participates once again by offering free courses and activities at the public,” said Sesc Ceara’s leisure program manager, Arquimedes Pinheiro.

In Strength the program will take place at Praça do Ferreira, Sesc Fortaleza Unit and Praça dos Estressados, Avenida Beira Mar, at different times, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Among the options, slackline, fit dance, pilates, yoga, functional circuit, aerobike, judo, recreation for children, physical evaluation, and many others.

At Brazil, the activities will take place in Juazeiro and Crato, both in the units and in the public spaces of the cities. Gymnastics, stretching and yoga classes; gymnastics, judo, cycling and sports challenges; cross-training and recreation with inflatable toys are some of the activities that will be available.

There will also be a Challenge Day program in the Sesc units of Crateús, Ibiapina, Iguatu, São Gonçalo, Sobral, Aracati and Quixeramobim. To view the full program, simply access the link.

About Challenge Day

During the Canadian winter of 1983, Saskatoon Mayor Clifford Wright suggested everyone go for a walk to warm up. The following year, Clifford invited the nearby town and they both took the walk together. The essence of Challenge Day was created.

The campaign is a global initiative of the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) which, in the Americas, is coordinated by Sesc São Paulo and has the institutional support of the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA ) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
