G7 threatens countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions

“We call on third countries and other international actors who seek to circumvent or weaken our measures to end their material aid to Russia’s war, or face serious consequences,” the leaders of the G7, in an approved communiqué, following a virtual meeting, held on the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The group of seven most industrialized countries in the world includes: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, although the European Union (EU) is also represented.

The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine has so far caused the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than eight million to European countries -, according to the latest data from the UN, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

Currently, at least 18 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian assistance and 9.3 million are in need of food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community as a whole, which responded by sending arms on Ukraine and imposing it on Russia. political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented as confirmed since the start of the war, exactly one year ago, 8,006 dead civilians and 13,287 wounded, stressing that these figures are well below the real ones.
