On the afternoon of this Wednesday, January 11, British singer Sam Smith released his new single “GIMME”, in partnership with Jamaican singer Koffee and Canadian Jessie Reyez. The work will compose his new album, “Gloria”, which is scheduled for release on January 27.

Just listening to the first few seconds of music, previously released by the singer without his TikTok account, it’s clear that “GIMME” has a danceable pop vibe that sounds a lot like dominating dance floors. Thus, Sam Smith leaves aside his intimate phase, with this energetic and daring new project, with a more relaxed version of the British artist.

Earlier today, he also sent a special message to his fans via his official Instagram account about the release:

Translation of the caption: “Sending everyone a message from Adelaide because today is a special day… Dancing With A Stranger has four [anos] @normani, and GIMME leaves at 18:00 GMT @Jessiereyez @originalkoffee ????

I can’t wait for you to hear it”

In the video, he says “I just wanted to send you a quick message because ‘Gimme’ came out today. Not only is ‘Gimme’ coming out, but it’s been four years today since ‘Dancing with a Stranger’, which crazy. […] I was in New Zealand when we released this song. So four years is pretty crazy and I’m so grateful to you today for all your support and love for this song and I want to leave a shout out to Jessie Reyez and Koffee and everyone involved in creating of “Gimme” and at creation this song arrives. It’s one of my favorite songs on the record and now I’m slowly starting to release music from this album. “Gimme” was for me the perfect step towards “Unholy”. Stay tuned for more. Enjoy music. Happy new year. I love you so much x”.

Sam had previously announced that he would be releasing another song from his new album, via his social media, revealing the date last Monday, January 9, in addition to also revealing the cover of “GIMME”.

It should be remembered that Smith had already released on September 22 of last year “Unholy” – which will also be part of “Glória” -, his collaboration with the German singer Kim Petras, later receiving a super produced music video.

Within a month of this release, the song reached the top of the Official Singles Chart, being the singer’s 8th single to reach No. 1 in the UK. The artist equals Oasis and the Rolling Stones as British names to achieve this feat.

Later, at the end of October 2022, as expected, “Unholy” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, adding 25.3 million streams, 21.5 million radio impressions and 19,000 downloads sold in the 14 weeks of the 20th. October, according to Luminate.

With this feat, Smith and Petras top the Hot 100 for the first time, Smith with his 20th entry on the chart and Petras with his first.

“Glory”

The work was announced in October last year by Sam Smith himself via his social media saying “Dear Sailors ⚓️ I am very happy to announce that my fourth album is called ‘GLORIA’. It will be yours on January 27, 2023 and you can order it now. I feel overwhelmed and moved as I begin to leave “Gloria” and hand this work over to you. It was magical in every way to make this piece of music, and by giving you this record, I’m giving you a part of my heart and my soul. “Gloria” has brought me through some dark times and been a beacon for me in my life. I hope this can be the case for you. Thank you for waiting so long. Just a few months now. Samx”

However, the name of his upcoming fourth studio album has sparked curiosity among the singer’s fans for choosing the name “Gloria”. And then Sam, in an interview with an entertainment tabloid, said “Gloria” is the strength he found in himself, with the idea of inspiring others to find the same path.

“There is a fighting voice in all of us and we just have to take care of it. […] I named my album ‘Gloria’ because I called that voice inside me Gloria. It’s like a voice in my head that just says, “You can do it. And children just need to access that voice and nurture it,” he explained.
