The appointment decree was signed this Tuesday (20) by Geraldo Alckmin, who assumes the presidency in place of Lula due to the PT deputy’s trip to Europe. The message to the Senate was published in the “Official Journal of the Union” this Wednesday (21).

Before that, Carlos França was advisor and responsible for presidential ceremonies, also during the Bolsonaro administration. According to the government, the leadership position in Canada will be the first that the former chancellor will assume abroad, if he obtains approval from the Senate.

To take over the Brazilian embassy in Canada, the former minister will have to be questioned by the Foreign Relations Commission (CRE) and have his name approved by the main plenary of the Senate. The vote is secret.

According to the Palácio do Planalto, the Canadian government granted France, in May, what is called “approval”, a consent that a state gives so that a diplomat from another country can be appointed to work on its territory.
