Gringo 2D Café is run by Canadian friends Dominique U. Junior38 years old, and Okera Turner39 years old. They have known each other for over 20 years while attending university in their home country. Over the years, they came to Brazil and the idea of starting their own business emerged.
Okera describes that after visiting and visiting many cafes in Espírito Santo in recent months, he was influenced to create one “in his own way.” And above all, that it was different from what is common in Vila Velha.
One of the goals of the cafeteria was to promote and introduce the Canadian and American menu to residents of the state.
“We have here many typical foods of these countries, such as: the famous pancakes, the American breakfast (consisting of eggs, bacon), waffles and croissants”, describe.
Watch a video of the interview at the new cafe below:
In an interview with Folha Vitória, with Miah Turner, Okera’s wife, the friends recount the whole process until the opening of the establishment.
Miah Turner, who is both Brazilian and Canadian, explains that the couple initially came to Espírito Santo in 2020 just to buy an apartment. It took a few more years of planning to open the business.
“We came straight to Espírito Santo. In Canada we already have several cafes and restaurants that offer 2D art and we wanted to introduce it here. Something fun that would attract attention,” he describes.
The cake that also imitates cartoons is a success
One of the establishment’s biggest hits, according to Miah, is what’s called the “cartoon cake,” literally translated as “drawing cake.” The food is decorated with optical illusion to simulate a 2D cartoon.
Technically, the flat illusion of a “cartoon cake” can be created by drawing thin lines on the cake with chocolate or even using black striped fondant.
The public makes a point of looking at the decoration. See the photos in the gallery:
With a structure considered unusual among the establishments of Greater Vitória and a decoration that makes you sigh with charm, the Gringo 2D Cafe attracts the public’s attention.
“We already have many customers who praise both the establishment and the food. Everyone stops to look,” ” said proudly.
