Guarapuava is chosen as the setting for an episode of an international series

NOTthis Monday, August 28, the team of Clube da Pesca.org, an independent production company that offers a documentary series on the Amazon Prime streaming service, composed of the director and co-producer, Thiago Henrique Fantini, of the cameraman and documentarian, Cezar Roberto Oliveira and documentary filmmaker Bruno Fernandes arrived in Guarapuava to record one of its episodes.

The documentary series Fishing Factor, launched in 2022 on Amazon Prime International, will address, in Guarapuava, fishing for rainbow trout, a species highly sought after by those who practice sport fishing.

“It’s great to see Guarapuava being recognized for its natural beauty and, above all, to see the town’s name being brought to the international stage so far. This shows how much progress we are making. Guarapuava is a tourist town and this recognition shows us that we are on the right track, building a place that attracts more and more tourists who stimulate the economy of owners of large and small businesses,” said Mayor Celso Góes .

“For us it is very important, because the more people who are interested in showing our municipality to the outside world, the better, especially in the context of such an important program in the world of fishing. In this experience tourism and rural tourism environment, there is much to explore and integrate. For us, we want to promote the name of Guarapuava more and more and the more it appears, the more our attractions will be shown and the more visitors we will have in Guarapuava,” highlighted the Secretary of Tourism and Events of the municipality, Katriane Mila.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in 2022, fishing generated billions of dollars in commercial and recreational sales, demonstrating that this practice constitutes a major tourist attraction for Brazil.

According to director and co-producer Thiago Henrique Fantini, the objective of the series is to describe the effect of the exploitation of sport fishing in the places where it occurs, both politically and geographically, addressing the development of sustainable tourism and its consequences. of tourism and fishing in the region.

“Basically, we chose the Guarapuava region because it is home to one of the country’s few non-native species, the rainbow trout. There are lines of adept anglers who travel the country in search of them, always trying to surpass their personal bests and discover new places. Because of this attraction, Guarapuava is a main point to capture this episode. We hope to have a great episode, because we were dazzled by the nature of the city,” underlined Thiago.

For the team’s cameraman and documentarian, Cezar Roberto Oliveira, the fishing in Guarapuava is part American and part Canadian, the types that sport fishermen enjoy. For this reason, in addition to the beauty of the location, as he also commented, Cezar believes that the eighth episode of the series will be of great proportions.

“It’s a heavenly place. We already know a little about the city and have visited some fantastic places. For us who are a little higher up in the country, geographically speaking, we’re not used to this type of environment, a cold place like this, but I think this place, with the content that we’re going to capture, will enrich our documentary, Because it’s a fish that people watch and fish a lot there. So we have good expectations,” emphasized the cameraman.

After a brief visit to the Municipal Natural Park of Araucárias, the group went to the location chosen for the recording of the episode “Rainbow Trout”, the Aka Lodge, a tourist environment in Guarapuava, located in the municipality of Entre Rivers, which has the necessary conditions to capture images, including the São Gerônimo river.

The series also seeks to show the diversity that Brazil has to offer tourists who come from abroad to discover the country for sport fishing. Guarapuava was part of the team’s itinerary and pleased everyone, not just because of the fishing, as documentary filmmaker Bruno Fernandes explained.

“We arrived here today in Guarapuava and it was quite cold, but the place is surprising. I even joked with people that it’s a place where you can bring your wife to enjoy nature, which is the most beautiful thing and best of all, you can fish. The area here is very rich in rainbow trout and that also improves our image capture,” he said.

Fishing Factor has already been selected for the Marg Fest European Film Festival in its 6th edition, screened in Portugal throughout July 2023. In addition, the series was the first Brazilian production that addresses sport fishing, to be selected by the curators of the 5th edition of the Marginal Art Festival (MAF). MAF emerged with the principle of taking art in its various forms to new environments, bringing artistic experimentation in new directions and locations across the world.

The series, licensed by Amazon Prime International, is available in the United States, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Germany. The episode does not yet have a scheduled air date.
