From this weekend, five basic health units will remain open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Services began this Saturday (20), and are expected to continue operating weekdays for the next three months.
The units that remain open to date are: Bom Jesus, José Mauro Ceratti Lopes, Moab Caldas, São Carlos and Santa Marta
A Prefecture of Porto Alegre indicated that the basic health units will serve as a support for emergency care, reducing the waiting time, especially in the winter period. In recent weeks, there has been a backlog of emergencies in the capital and according to the town hall and the hospitals, one of the justifications was the non-functioning of the weekend posts.
The new measure emphasizes the attention paid to medical consultations. According to the Ministry of Health, the action will bring a greater offer of consultations, in addition to preventing non-serious patients from waiting longer in the services dedicated to serious and acute cases.
Porto Alegre has four urgent care units for citizens. About 75% of the patients who arrive in these units are mild cases (green and blue classification), who only need medication, a certificate and support.
