Uruguay beat Canada on penalties this Saturday night (13), in the match for third place in the Copa América 2024. The match was very crazy and defined in stoppage time, which resulted in penalties. Uruguay took the lead with Bentancur in the first half and Koné equalized at the end. In the second half, Jonathan David turned for the Canadians, but Luis Suárez equalized in stoppage time of the second half, taking the decision to the maximum penalties, where the Uruguayans won in Charlotte 4-2, with a save by Rochet, which gave the 3rd place in the competition held in the United States. The final will take place tomorrow, at 9:00 p.m. (Brasilia time), between Argentina and Colombia.
THE GAME
The game was quite busy and “crazy”, with Uruguay better in the first half, where they opened the scoring early with Bentancur, and it seemed that they were going to score an elastic score, but Canada woke up and stopped the Uruguayan initiative. In the 21st minute, Koné equalized, with a brilliant goal.
The second half was the craziest. The game was charged, but no one was able to score and it seemed like the game was going to go to penalties. Until the 34th minute, Koné shot Rochet who was defending with a palm and Jonathan David arrived to turn the situation around for Canada, 2-1. In the minutes that followed, the game seemed won, but for Suárez, who made a great effort, nothing was won. In stoppage time, he equalized the game and led to the maximum number of penalties for Charlotte.
MAXIMUM PENALTIES
Jonathan David led the charge and scored for Canada. Valverde equalized for Uruguay. Bombito scored, but Rochet saved Koné’s shot and Davies hit the post. Bentancur, Arrascaeta and Suárez did it for Uruguay, who took third place in the Copa América with a 4-2 victory.
